24-30 Months 

Developmental Milestones

Developmental milestones are key skills or objectives that your child should obtain naturally on their own through growth and development. We track these milestones in the categories of cognitive, communication, social, emotional, adaptive, and physical development.

Cognitive

  • Child should be able to repeat finger plays with words and actions.

  • Child should be able to tell their own age.

  • Child should be able to understand “one”, “one more”, and “all.”

  • Child should be able to match simple shapes such as circles, squares, and triangles.

  • Child should be able to identify rooms in their own home.

Communication

  • Child can whisper.

  • Child can identify common objects described by their use.

  • Child can use sentences of three or more words.

  • Child can understand negatives.

  • Child can use some regular plurals.

Social-Emotional

  • Child should look at people when speaking with them.

  • Child should take turns.

  • Child should recognize when another person is happy or sad.

  • Child should avoid common dangers.

  • Child should claim certain articles as being his or her own.

Adaptive

  • Child should take off own shoes, socks, and loose pants.

  • Child should sit up on toilet for at least 1 minute supervised.

  • Child should wash and dry hands as well as face.

  • Child should show care when handling and infant or small animal.

  • Child should use a fork to stab food.

Physical Development

  • Child can walk swinging arms and legs in cross pattern.

  • Child can catch a ball while trapping it against chest.

  • Child can jump in place with feet together.

  • Child can roll, pound, and squeeze clay.

  • Child can use adult grasp when holding a pencil.
