Developmental Milestones
Developmental milestones are key skills or objectives that your child should obtain naturally on their own through growth and development. We track these milestones in the categories of cognitive, communication, social, emotional, adaptive, and physical development.
Cognitive
Child should be able to repeat arm or leg movements to cause an action to occur.
Child should be able to explore objects in a variety of ways.
Child should be able to pull clothes from face.
Child should be able to intentionally drop an object and watch as it falls.
Child should be able to play with a rattle placed in hand.
Communication
Child should laugh out loud.
Child should briefly stop activity when name is called.
Child should vocalize pleasure and displeasure.
Child should be able to imitate sounds.
Child should be able to make noise when talked to.
Social-Emotional
Child should comfort themselves. (Example: Sucking hand or thumb)
Child should express desire to be picked up.
Child should smile at our pat own image in a mirror.
Child should interact differently with caregivers and strangers.
Child should initiate social contact.
Adaptive
Child should be able to swallow pureed foods.
Child should be able to show definite likes and dislikes of various foods.
Child should be able to suck hand or thumb.
Child should be able to move food around with tongue in mouth.
Child should close lips when swallowing.
Physical Development
Child should be able to transfer objects from one hand to the other.
Child should be able to bang two objects together.
Child should be able to sit for at least five seconds with hips supported.
Child should be able to roll from back to stomach.
Child should be able to roll from back to side.
