Developmental Milestones
Developmental milestones are key skills or objectives that your child should obtain naturally on their own through growth and development. We track these milestones in the categories of cognitive, communication, social, emotional, adaptive, and physical development.
Cognitive
Child can understand the terms “same” and “different.”
Child can match objects that have the same function.
Child can understand “heavy” and “light.”
Child can understand “more” and “less.”
Child can sort objects by physical characteristics. (Example: Color and Shape)
Communication
Child can name primary colors.
Child can state full name.
Child can answer questions when told a short story.
Child can use contractions.
Child can use regular past tense forms.
Child can use pronouns.
Social-Emotional
Child should share toys.
Child should play in group board games and card games.
Child should volunteer for tasks.
Child should quiet down after active play.
Child should participate in circle games.
Adaptive
Child should manipulate large buttons or snaps.
Child should cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.
Child should hang clothes in designated location.
Child should clean up spills.
Child should complete simple errands.
Physical Development
Child can copy drawing a cross.
Child can hop forward on one foot.
Child can hammer pegs.
Child can run around objects and turn corners.
Child can jump forward with feet together at least 20 inches.
