Developmental Milestones

Developmental milestones are key skills or objectives that your child should obtain naturally on their own through growth and development. We track these milestones in the categories of cognitive, communication, social, emotional, adaptive, and physical development.

Cognitive

  • Child can draw a person with six recognizable parts.

  • Child can match numbers of items to a correct numeral.

  • Child can recognize a few printed words.

  • Child can predict what will happen next.

  • Child can print their first name without a model.

Communication

  • Child can respond to questions involving time concepts.

  • Child can generate complex sentences.

  • Child can tell familiar stories without picture cues.

  • Child can give at least three descriptive words that characterize an object.

  • Child can participate in group discussions.

Social-Emotional

  • Child should offer assistance to others.

  • Child should help with group projects.

  • Child should say “excuse me” to interrupt politely.

  • Child should like competitive games.

  • Child should respond with appropriate affect or action in social situations.

Adaptive

  • Child should select clothing appropriate for temperature and occasion.

  • Child can make their own bed.

  • Child can use the toilet, wipe self, flush, and redress independently.

  • Child can comb or brush hair.

  • Child can brush teeth without assistance.

Physical Development

  • Child can bounce and catch a ball.

  • Child can color within the lines.

  • Child can do at least three sit-ups.

  • Child can jump sideways with feet together.

  • Child can cut out a square.
